These tidal current summaries for the Vic-Maui Yacht Race, starting July 5 (Cruise) & 7 (Race), 2012 have been prepared for the Vic-Maui Event Committee of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Below are a series of CHS tide tables and current maps covering the period of the races start region, intended for the general information of the skippers and crew sailing in the 2012 Vic-Maui Yacht Race.

Canadian Hydrographic Service Tide Tables:

        Tidal Currents: Race Passage

Tidal Currents: Juan de Fuca East

Tidal Currents: Juan de Fuca West/Entrance

Tidal current charts covering every 1 hour starting 09:00 July 5 & 7 2012 near Race Passage, progressively working out through to 12:00 July 6 & 8, 2012 at Juan de Fuca Entrance/West. A set of three files is listed for each Vic-Maui start (July 5 & 7). The predictions are based on the Vancouver Island regional tidal model of Foreman et al, 2004. Each PDF file below contains current chart pages, one for each hour/prediction. In the case of any discrepancy, the CHS tide tables above will take precedence.

July 5-6: Cruising Class

Tidal Current Charts: Juan de Fuca East: Victoria to Race Passage

Tidal Current Charts: Central Juan de Fuca Strait

Tidal Current Charts: Juan de Fuca Western Entrance

July 7-8: Racing Class

Tidal Current Charts: Juan de Fuca East: Victoria to Race Passage

Tidal Current Charts: Central Juan de Fuca Strait

Tidal Current Charts: Juan de Fuca Western Entrance

Time series inserts in the upper left corners are for the associated tidal current stations: Race Passage, Juan de Fuca East, and Juan de Fuca West, respectively. For reference, a current of 100 cm/s is roughly two knots. These tidal current charts are for the general information of the sailors, and must not to be used for navigational purposes.

Any questions about the current charts should be address to Richard Dewey.
